The song of the tree

Her branches quiverSoft leaves floating on the running windSlivers of sunlight scatteredI sit at her feetRough roots that vein through the dirtI wait for her songSlow and unsure at firstA soft tune with cracking notesAs she sways to her own beatThe birds fly to listenAnd she sings louderThe river roaring by her sideMy head resting on her cut dead familyTears stream through her broken wordsRinging cold and trueThrough the rocky party of forbidden woodsAs the flowers open to sad musicAnd it is goneThe forest hangs in silenceAnd I sit at her feetWaiting for her song. Can you hear it?

Windy

Curtains float softlyOn wind that tortures the treesWho’s touch leave me cold.

Tiger in the Rainforest

I creep beneath the thick canopy, hidden in the greenThe humid, wet air calling amidst the howls and screamsEmerald green jungle, impenetrable and blockedEach tree, looming and massive in the darkA canopy of hues of green and brownDotted with the flowers of a place unfoundThe roaring falls and the clear blue pondsRippling and reverberating like the calls of birdsongThe orchids and bromeliads that fall softly to the groundThey float by the ant lines that I am careful to not plowThe bees, they buzz by the brightly colored butterfliesAmong the sticky trees and plants that silence insect criesI prowl carefully, quietly, […]

Coyote in the Grasslands

I tread through the waving grasses, bristling and thickThe sun beating down in yellow rays onto the verdant pitsAcross the flowers and herbs on the rolling terrainsWhere I walk, concealed by straw, lying in waitThe earth humid, but the air dryWithering under cloudless skiesThe empty land dotted with shrubs of greenA vast expanse of land unreachedBut now you creep into our lands, it grows smaller each dayAnd with your actions, you set it closer to flamesWild indigo sprinkled ‘cross the never-ending plainsAmongst the goldenrod and dandelion hazeThe bright orange of the flowers of blazing starsDance with the lemon sunflowers afarWoody […]

Lion in the Savannah

I bask in the early sunlight of the red skyPooling on the savannah floor in warm hued lightThe grasses, a sea of gold and brownThat ripples through the air as I lie in the downWe sit under the shade of the baobab’s leavesWhose trunk rises like the beanstalk of fairytale dreamsInto a sparse canopy of branches and twigsThat barely block out the heat streaming inHeat waves rolling through the cloudless skySend my vision sprawling in search of lifeA careful balance of individuals who eat to each their ownNow shattered and fractured with the grand’s savannah’s bonesThe acacia berries that litter […]

Rattlesnake in the Desert

I slither down the hot sand under the scorching sunThe dunes are rippling hills of golden mass, a sea of oneDown across the flat land of the desert domainWhere the land is a vast expanse of lonely plainsAnd the sun burns something fierce across rainless yearsThe ground a cracked floor, from the bright sun’s wearMy brothers and I, we search for refugeFor hope, amongst the yellow, we search for water blueAn oasis we hope to see, a sliver of blue and greenBut we revel in the desert’s sunset, for it has colors unseenThe pink and orange scream across the golden […]

Fox in the Woodland

I tiptoe through the forest of brush and cold mountain The quiet whistle of the wind luring me out of my den I blend, orange furred, with the bright warm hues of the autumn leaves That fall to the ground in millions, a flurry from the trees The shrubs, trees and saplings grow unchecked through these lands A playground for us, to run through bushes and trees grand But we must hide, we must be careful here nowadays For each corner turns your kind, or the effects you’ve left behind The lichen and moss that carpets this forest ground Is […]
