We walk in unison
Our arms swinging by our side, hand in hand
We laugh and we smile
She runs along the road, and I sprint behind
She stops for the incoming
Who walk past like she’s invisible
Stepping on her feet, knocking her down
Like they cannot see her
Can’t see her head of brown curls
Can’t see her stick-thin body
Can’t see her large amber eyes
That stare only at me as everyone trudges ahead
And when they all leave
She runs back into my arms
Whispering about how the only eyes she cares about
Is mine
And she is only special to me
So, we walk in unison
And I shield her from the rest of the world
Who glance at me, but never her
Their eyes flitting over negative space
They cannot see the one with me
But can you?
